Arsene Wenger Wants To Sign This Midfielder To Form A Trio With Ozil And Sanchez
Arsenal fans are all too familiar with having to suffer underwhelming transfer windows. It looked as though the Gunners would be in for a busy few months after they completed the signing of Granit Xhaka for £30 million.
But, after capturing unknown Japan international Takuma Asano and being on the verge of signing Bolton’s Rob Holding, Gooners are fearing another disappointing summer.
It’s clear that Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in a top quality striker but his attempts to sign one have, so far, proved fruitless. Jamie Vardy turned down the chance to join the north London club while they don’t appear any closer in capturing the likes of Alexandre Lacazette or Gonzalo Higuain.
And now, it seems as though Wenger has turned his attention to signing a midfielder rather than a forward. That’s because The Sun are reporting that the Frenchman is keen to bring Barcelona’s Arda Turan to the club.
The report states that the Gunners are leading the race for the Turkey international with the Frenchman identifying the 29-year-old as the perfect player to form a formidable attacking midfield trio alongside Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
Last week, it was revealed by Marca that Barcelona were willing to sell Turan for £20 million but Arsenal will face stiff competition for his signature. Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested, so too are Italian giants Juventus.
However, Turan’s agent, Ahmet Bulut, insists that any reports suggesting that his client is set to leave Camp Nou are wrong, GiveMeSport reports.
“It is normal that there is interest in him, but those saying that Barcelona are willing to sell are false. Arda Turan is happy at Barcelona,” he said.
Turan joined Barcelona last summer from Atletico Madrid for around £30 million but was prevented from playing until January due to the club’s transfer embargo. After the turn of the year, he only managed to score two goals and provide four assists in all competitions as Barcelona narrowly won La Liga.
But, after the Catalan club announced the re-signing of Denis Suarez, it looks as though Turan will struggle to play regular first-team football at Barcelona next campaign.
