Barcelona Set To Announce Lucas Digne Signing

Barcelona set to announce signing of Lucas Digne

Barcelona may have found a replacement for Dani Alves, who completed his free transfer to Juventus last month.

But Arsenal fans can rest easily: Hector Bellerin is not on his way to the Camp Nou.
Instead, it’s the French full-back Lucas Digne who is poised to become Luis Enrique’s third summer signing.
This is according to Spanish newspaper AS, who have been told by sources close to the club that “this Thursday you’ll probably see an official presentation”.
Barcelona have had their eye on Digne, who was on loan at AS Roma from Paris Saint-Germain last season, for the best part of two years.
Indeed, the Catalan giants attempted to bring the Frenchman to the Camp Nou in 2014 but the player, only 20 at the time, decided it was in his best interests to stay with PSG.
Digne made 39 appearances for Roma last season, scoring three goals, but PSG appear to have decided to sell the left-back for a fee in the region of €12 million, per Catalan daily Sport.
It’s understood that a final fee will be agreed over the coming hours.
Enrique may have ideas of converting Digne to the right wing-back position, but Digne is a left-sided full-back by trade.
The 22-year-old is likely to provide Jordi Alba with additional competition.
Enrique is clearly focused on bolstering his defensive options following last season’s defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Although Barcelona won the title by a point, with the second-best ‘goals conceded’ figure in La Liga, that 2-0 defeat at the Vicente Calderon in April has finally forced the club to go out and recruit a new centre-back and a new full-back.
