Departing Arsenal Midfielder Warns Jack Wilshere 'Might Not Get A Game' This Season
He might not have been able to fully justify his inclusion in England’s Euro 2016 squad, but at least Arsenal fans can take solace in the fact that Jack Wilshere made it through the tournament injury-free.
Having watched the combative midfielder make just three appearances in the Premier League last season, the Gunners faithful are certainly hoping to see a lot more of him during the 2016/17 campaign.
That might not be quite so simple, however, even if the 24-year-old is able to keep himself away from the treatment table. Indeed, in the words of recently departed youngster Isaac Hayden, Wilshere might struggle to get any game time at Arsenal at all.
Isaac Hayden, 21, who made his first-team debut for Arsenal in 2013 but only made two appearances before joining Newcastle this summer on a five-year deal, clearly appreciated the opportunity to work with a myriad of top midfield talent.
He did, though, bemoan the fact that Arsene Wenger has too many options at the position – a fact, he argued, that could leave his fellow Englishman out in the cold:
“For me there was no chance for me at Arsenal,” he said.
“There are too many midfielders there, and even players like Jack Wilshere might not get a game next season.”Wilshere, of course, will be hoping Hayden’s ominous warning doesn’t hold true when the new season gets underway next month.
With the likes of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin all capable of playing centrally, not to mention new signing Granit Xhaka, the England midfielder is going to face some extremely stiff competition if he wants to see playing time.
He has, though, always been a favourite of Wenger’s so he will be hoping to win a place in the starting lineup.
