Flying Eagles Players Blame NFF’s Negligence For Sudan Defeat
Leading 2-1 from the first leg, Emmanuel Amuneke’s charges lost 4-3 to Sudan on Saturday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos with the visitors qualifying for Zambia 2017 on the away goals rule.
Some of the players who are still dejected by their shocking defeat to the Sudanese told Completesportsnigeria.com that their failure to qualify for the competition was as a result of poor welfare package by the Nigeria Football Federation.
“We are still in shock and it’s still like a dream to us that we are not going to the Nations Cup,” one of the players opened up.
“I know most Nigerians are disappointed in us, but a lot of people don’t know what we went through in camp.”Many people have pointed accusing fingers at the head coach of the side Emmanuel Amuneke for wrong tactics and for not picking the right players.
“How do we give our best when they (NFF) failed to pay us our bonuses and camp allowances?”
“It was the same scenario when we played in the U-17, but we couldn’t bear it this time around.”
“It’s normal for accusations like this to come up in a situation like this, but those blaming the coach need to understand the fact that this is the same team that won the U-17 World Cup last year,” another player said.
“You need to ask him (Amuneke) the last time he was paid his salary.”
“We all resolved to boycott the game when our bonuses and allowances were not paid, but he kept pushing hard to give our best”
“Obviously, we didn’t go into the game with the right mindset.”
