Lionel Messi Makes Decision Over Argentina Future
Will Lionel Messi really never play for Argentina again? That’s a question that will no doubt be asked time and time again until, perhaps, the Barcelona icon once again stars for his country.
But there’s every chance that Messi, who is duly recognised as one of the greatest players in the history of the game, will never again don the blue and white stripes of Argentina.
That’s because, after suffering yet more international heartbreak with his country during the summer’s Copa America tournament – Argentina were beaten at the hands of Chile in the final for the second consecutive year – Messi opted to call time on his international career.
Unsurprisingly, following his announcement, there has already been many pleas to get him to reverse his decision.
Indeed, as per Goal.com, it appears that the Argentine FA and the government have both attempted to change the player’s mind.
In fact, the report even claims that the governing body had planned to give the superstar a say in just who would become the next manager of the national side.
But their efforts haven’t quite gone to plan. Argentina are set to take on Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier on September 1, but Messi will not feature.
The same report from Goal claims that sources from Messi’s family have insisted that the superstar will not complete a return.
“Right now he is not part of the national team,” the family explained.
“He does not impose trainers nor does he get them sacked.”
That’s that, then; Messi will not play for his country in the immediate future.
