Ronaldo, Nani Fire Portugal Past Wales Into Final
Portugal have qualified for the final of this year’s European Championship after defeating Wales 2-0 in Wednesday’s first semi-final.
Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani in the 50th and 53rd minutes respectively secured Portugal’s second European final after making their first appearance in 2004 as hosts.
The game saw Ronaldo become the first player in the history of the championship to appear in three semi-finals.
His goal against Wales was his ninth since making his debut in 2004, equalling Michel Platini for the most goals scored in the history of the tournament.
However, while Platini scored all his nine goals at one tournament, it has taken Ronaldo four to reach that mark.
Portugal will now meet in the final on Sunday the winners between hosts France and Germany who square off in the second semi-final on Thursday.
After a goalless first half, Ronaldo finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, heading in a corner to put Portugal 1-0 up.
And three minutes later Portugal doubled their lead after Nani deflected Ronaldo’s shot.
