Sir Alex Ferguson Names Euro 2016's Best Player
Who has been the best player of the European Championships?
Dimitri Payet is the bookmakers’ current favourite to win the coveted best player award, followed by Antoine Griezmann, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Toni Kroos.
According to Sky Sports presenter Jim White, Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t think Payet has been the tournament’s standout performer.
The former Manchester United manager told White that Griezmann, Payet’s French teammate, has been Euro 2016’s best player.
The Atletico Madrid forward currently leads the race for the Euro 2016 top scorer accolade with four goals and played a key role for Les Bleus in the knockout round wins over the Republic of Ireland and Iceland.Sir Alex Ferguson tells me tonight that for him, @AntoGriezmann has been the player of #EURO2016— Jim White (@JimWhite) July 5, 2016
Didier Deschamps and the French public will once again be looking to Griezmann to provide the goals in their crunch semi-final against world champions Germany on Thursday night.
Victory in that match would see France take on the winners of Wednesday night’s other semi-final between Portugal and Wales in the final on Sunday.
Griezmann’s future was the subject of much speculation towards the end of the season, but the 25-year-old put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with Atletico last month.
“I’m very satisfied, very happy to keep belonging to this family and this project,” Griezmann, who scored 32 goals in 54 appearances for Atleti last season, was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
“I want to improve every year, and the club, the coaches and my team-mates can help me to reach this goal.”Source: GiveMeSport
