Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, wants the Super Eagles to play their Russia 2018 World Cup Africa qualifiers at the Abuja National Stadium.
An official source told Completesportsnigeria.com that the minister is not happy that the Nigeria Football Federation abandoned the Abuja National Stadium for other venues in the country, and has ordered that the Super Eagles should play their world cup qualifiers in Abuja.
"The minister will tell the NFF to ensure that all Super Eagles' matches are played in Abuja. The minister is wondering why such a beautiful and big stadium should be lying fallow while other parts of the country enjoy big games."
"The idea is to make the Abuja National stadium a home and a fortress for Super Eagles. All the talks of Abuja fans apathy to football matches at the 60,000 capacity stadium does not hold water as the minister is bent on making sure that the stadium play host to big matches," the ministry official divulged to Completesportsnigria.com.
According to our source who opted to be anonymous, the minister does not want a repeat of the overcrowding incident that happened in Kaduna for which CAF fined Nigeria 5,000 dollars
Recent media reports have it that the NFF have scheduled all Super Eagles World Cup qualifiers away from Abuja National Stadium. Uyo, Port Harcourt and Kaduna have been listed to host the Eagles next three games.
