Enzo Zidane Produces Fine Assists For Real Madrid Against Reims

Being the son of one of football’s greatest ever figures, it cannot be easy for Enzo Zidane to cut his own path in a world his father once dominated.

The situation is made even worse by the fact that Zinedine Zidane is now the head coach of his club Real Madrid. Every time he starts or is even named on the bench, critics will wonder whether he has actually earned it or is simply enjoying the benefits of nepotism.

But the midfielder is starting to prove his worth in the Real Madrid senior squad and has displayed some impressive technical skill during their pre-season tour of the US. But it was not until last night that he really started to produce the goods.

Real Madrid took part in their final pre-season fixture ahead of the new La Liga season on Wednesday night, hosting Ligue 1 outfit Reims in the Santiago Bernabeu, GiveMeSport reports.

In a fixture designed to honour the 60th anniversary of the first ever European Cup final, the two clubs put on a show befitting of that historic tie with Los Blancos coming out as 5-3 winners.

Both teams exchanged a hatful of goals with Reims taking an early lead in the ninth minute. They held onto it for just two minutes when equalised. Goals from Sergio Ramos, James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata followed, but Reims kept hitting them back.

With ten minutes to go, the score was 4-3 to Real Madrid. Then, Enzo stepped up to seal the game with an expertly delivered assist for Mariano. Take a look at his effort below.

But has Enzo done enough to earn a place in his father’s senior squad? With the like of Luka Modric,Isco, James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos to compete with, there is every chance Zinedine will decide to send his eldest son on loan.

Middlesbrough have been credited with an interest and that will only strengthen after his showing at the Bernabeu on Tuesday evening. The 21-year-old would get much more first-team football at the Riverside but the facilities and coaching on offer will be nowhere near what they are in the Spanish capital.

What seems certain is that Enzo will not be heading back to Real Madrid’s B-Team, Castilla, ahead of the new season. He has convinced coaches that he is now too good to play in Spain’s third tier, where Castilla will compete.

The biggest decision will be whether the Premier League can offer him the education he needs to further his game. Surely it would be wiser to keep him in La Liga, where he will, hopefully, play for the next few years under his father’s tutelage.
