Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is never far away from controversy in football, whether that be on the pitch or off it, so it is no surprise that his own words have come under scrutiny once more.
On this occasion, it appears to be in a much more light-hearted manner, and regards a nickname that he has used to describe his own captain and England international Wayne Rooney, which the player himself may not be best pleased with hearing, 90min reports.
However, it has been reported that despite only just reaching the surface now, the comments were made before Mourinho was placed in the hot seat at Old Trafford. According to author Rob Beasley, whose book is being serialised by the Daily Mail, the Portuguese manager tried to sign the former Everton striker in his periods as manager of Real Madrid and Chelsea.
The three time Premier League winner was never successful, however his nickname for Rooney was accidentally revealed when Mourinho was in discussion with his son Joshua, saying:
“What do you think of us trying to sign the Fat Boy?”
That’s right, the ‘Fat Boy’. With Rooney’s form being questioned and sceptics arguing the country’s greatest ever goalscorer should be benched, this most recent revelation will do little to boost the confidence of the United skipper.
