Bayern Munich’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has weighed in on the debate about his team’s indifferent form, telling Goal that a change of attitude is needed following their 2-2 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend, 90min reports.
Despite the German champions leading in the match, a 10-man Frankfurt side levelled the scores twice to make it consecutive draws for the Bavarian giants.
The team have come in for criticism in recent weeks having seen a drop in form with many suggesting that the players have become complacent. This has led to senior members of the squad calling for their teammates to sharpen up whilst manager Carlo Ancelotti has made similar noises, when he accused his players of ‘sleeping’ during the match at Frankfurt.
When asked about his thoughts on the situation at the club and what he made of the disappointing 2-2 draw, Rummenigge did not hold back.
The club’s chief executive said:
“That was not worthy of FC Bayern. We do not experience something like that so often. Today we must be satisfied with a point, like we started the game with. But we must go with another attitude to the pitch.”
With many players and off field members of the club, calling for a change in attitude over the last few weeks, the message appears to have been slow to get through to the players.
Whilst Bayern remain two points clear at the top of the league, the high standards at the club mean that several games without a win is cause for concern.
Carlo Ancelotti will be desperate for his team to heed the advice of the chief executive and put in a much improved display in this week’s Champions League group game when they host Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
