Kolo Toure Conducts Honest Interview After His Two Mistakes Cost Celtic

You wouldn’t find many footballers brave enough to conduct a live post-match interview after costing his side with two mistakes in a Champions League match.

But full credit to Kolo Toure because that’s precisely what he did after his errors earned Borussia Monchengladbach a 2-0 victory at Celtic Park on Wednesday night, GiveMeSport reports.

The vastly-experienced centre-back, who turns 36 in March, was at fault for both goals and the result means Celtic are now almost certainly out of the Champions League – and probably Europe altogether, too.

For Gladbach’s first goal, scored in the 56th minute, Toure attempted to shepherd the ball out of play, only for Andre Hahn to keep it in and offload to Lars Stindl, who rifled the ball through the legs of Craig Gordon.

Hahn then scored the visitors’ second goal of the night with 13 minutes remaining following more calamitous defending by Toure.

The former Ivory Coast international then fronted up in the post-match interview with BT Sport, accepting responsibility for the defeat.

“In that kind of competition you can’t afford that kind of mistake. I have to blame myself,” he said.

“I have to blame myself because it was a simple action to put the ball to the side. I like to play and give my team the ball but maybe not there.

“It was the same with the second goal. I’m 35-years-old and still making 16-year-old’s mistakes.”
