Tottenham Captain Hugo Lloris Urges His Teammates Not To Get Carried Away

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has told his team-mates not to get carried away following his side’s hugely impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side produced a breathless display of high-tempo pressing which blew away the Citizens and inflicted Pep Guardiola’s first defeat as Manchester City boss, but Lloris has quickly issued a word of warning to his team-mates.
“As long as we have the same mentality and spirit, we can have ambition,” Lloris said.
“We have a young team, with a lot of talent. We just need to make sure we are not changing our [mentality], just being the same. That’s why [the players] enjoy their time at Tottenham because the spirit is excellent.
“Last season we were already one of the best defences in the league (Tottenham actually conceded the least goals in 2015-16, with 35) so I think it’s one of our basics to be strong at the back. It doesn’t mean we are a defensive team, we are the opposite.
“We have to try and play with a lot of risk in our game, trying to play as high up as we can on the pitch, putting pressure, as we did especially in the first half against [Manchester] City.
“But we have the ability to play with a lot of different options, like we did in the second half, playing a bit deeper, waiting and counter-attacking.”
Spurs have made their best ever start to a Premier League season and sit just one point below Manchester City in second place in the table.
They also boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded just three goals, of which only one, Ben Gibson’s consolation goal for Middlesbrough during Spurs’ 2-1 victory at the Riverside Stadium in September, was shipped with Lloris on the pitch.
