Gareth Bale A Doubt For El Classico Clash?

Zinedine Zidane has revealed that Gareth Bale will be touch and go ahead of Real Madrid’s crunch El Clasico battle with Barcelona after he sustained an injury on Tuesday, 90min reports.
The Wales superstar came off second best in a challenge in the 2-1 victory over Sporting in the Champions League, and hobbled off the pitch with a supposed ankle injury during the first half.
Real head to the Camp Nou on Saturday to take on bitter rivals Barcelona, and could be without one of their key personnel as they look to cement their four point lead at the summit of Spain’s top flight.
Speaking to the press after the game in Lisbon, with quotes published by BBC Sport, Zidane stated that the extent of the 27-year-old’s injury would not be clear until club doctors could perform a scan on the issue.
He said:
“He suffered more of a twist than a knock, but we will have to wait and see what the problem is. On Wednesday, he will be examined by our medical staff and after that, we will find out more.”
Real had Karim Benzema to thank as they squeezed past Sporting to secure their passage into the knockout stages of the Champions League. The France international bagged a late winner for the away side after Adrien Silva’s 80th minute penalty had cancelled out Raphael Varane’s first-half opener.
With Real now safely into the last-16 of UEFA’s flagship club tournament, attentions now turn to domestic matters ahead of the winter break for Zidane and his charges, and the France legend added that he was keen to see Los Blancos extend a terrific run of form that has seen them go 30 matches without tasting defeat in all competitions.
Real last lost a match in April’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Wolfsburg, but have remained unbeaten since that time.
He told Sky Sports:
“We had our difficult moments in the game but that is normal. In the previous game against us Sporting played with the same intensity and they didn’t drop their heads after going behind, but we managed to score a wonderful second goal through Karim Benzema.”
“It was important that we won here; we achieved what we came to get. We are going to play a final against Dortmund now.
“What we want to do is to continue doing what we are doing, knowing that there are moments during the game where things are not going for us.
“To have gone so many games without losing is an extra motivation and we want to keep moving forward knowing that when you win matches, you go out more motivated next time.”
