Arsenal Could Benefit From Real Madrid's Pursuit Of Their 'Dream Signing'

Have you ever heard of Godwin's Law? It is an interesting theory claiming that when a discussion goes on for long enough, someone involved will be compared to Adolf Hitler. It is just inevitable.

We can certainly make a case for a new theory called Benzema's Law, which will claim that any world-class striker will be linked with Arsenal at some point in any given summer, so long as they are French.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for Karim Benzema in each of the last three summers with reports often growing to fever-pitch before eventually coming to nothing. And this summer is no different. Before the start of July, the reports are back.
El Confidencial have claimed Arsenal's interest in Benzema is alive and well with Arsene Wenger forever waiting in the wings should Real Madrid finally decide to cash in. The Spanish broadsheet claims that if president Florentino Perez gets his way, that decision will be forthcoming.
While head coach Zinedine Zidane pines for Juventus star Paul Pogba, Perez is very much of the impression that Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski would make the perfect signing. He dreams of bringing the 27-year-old to the Bernabeu despite having an attacking line-up stacked full of world-class players.
There are, of course, other names on the wish list including Lewandowski's club team-mate David Alaba and Chelsea's Eden Hazard but it is the 42-goal striker that is currently topping it.
Reports claim Benzema is likely to be moved on if they feel they can sign Lewandowski and there seems to be only one likely destination.
Arsenal are still on the lookout for a world-class striker and Benzema certainly fits that billing. They have failed with moves for Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez and Jamie Vardy in recent summers, leaving the much maligned Olivier Giroud as their first-choice.
Wenger's shock bid for Vardy earlier this summer appeared to suggest that faith in Giroud is waning. It is thought he has the money to make a club-record move should the right player come along.
As always, Arsenal fans can expect to hear a lot more about this in the coming weeks. Now the Benzema ball is set in motion, only the close of the transfer window can stop it.
