Atletico Madrid Open Talks To Resign Diego Costa

There is no place like home, it seems, and Diego Costa has made no secret that he is keen to return to Madrid.

The Spanish international signed for Chelsea in 2014 and had an impressive first season, scoring 20 goals in 28 league appearances.

Winning the Premier League in his first season, the goals soon dried up in a disappointing second season.

Only 16 goals were scored in all competitions leading to some suggestions that the striker is homesick and a move away from Stamford Bridge was desired.

Despite the latest season, Costa remained a hero amongst the Chelsea fans and often a villain for any opponents due to his theatrics and his dirty play.

A role that frequently brings the best of him and suits the style of play his potential new club appreciates.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has also made no secret that he wants his former striker to return to the club and it is believed the Champions League finalists have opened talks about a £35 million move.

One of the conditions that the Argentine manager persisted on should he remain at the helm of Estadio Vicente Calderon was that money would be there to bring in a striker.

That wish was granted as cash is there to spend following Jackson Martinez’s sale to the Chinese Super League.

Those demands were agreed as the in-demand manager wants to go one further as he seeks glory at Los Colchoneros, bringing the Champions League and a further La Liga title back home.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang unlikely to move from Borussia Dortmund, Gonzalo Higuain flirting with a change in scenery away from Napoli and Inter rejecting advances for Mauro Icardi, it looks like the Brazilian born forward remains the best option.

With Chelsea’s signing of Michy Batshuayi, the door may be open for the move as the West London club look set to balance the books following their latest transfer.

According to reports, the move all depends on new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and whether the Italian wants two world class goalscorers to choose from or just to rely on his new signing.
