Cristiano Ronaldo Will Win The Ballon D'or - Antoine Griezmann
Antoine Griezmann was comfortably one of the standout players of Euro 2016, but that certainly won’t come as any comfort to him after France were beaten at the hands of Portugal during Sunday’s final.
Substitute Eder proved to be the match-winner with a well-taken goal from the edge of the box, but Cristiano Ronaldo, despite leaving the field of play after just 25 minutes, stole the show with his antics on the sidelines.
Portugal’s talismanic leader couldn’t contain his enthusiasm and was constantly directing and shouting at his teammates.
Ronaldo played a prominent role throughout and, understandably, was over the moon after his country secured their first major trophy.
And following the game, Griezmann, who secured the Golden Boot award with six goals, suggested that Ronaldo has already won the next Ballon d’Or award.
As well as winning Euro 2016, Ronaldo helped Real Madrid claim Champions League silverware last term. Griezmann, then, believes the dynamic forward will once again be named the world’s best player.
“For the Ballon D’Or, it is all over,” said the 25-year-old, as per Goal.com.
“Ronaldo won the two big competitions this season.”
It’s fair to say that Portugal defied the odds to overcome their opponents, but you have to credit them for their fight and hunger throughout the 120 minutes at the Stade de France.
Following the game, Portugal boss Fernando Santos praised his ‘amazing group’ of players.
He stated, as per ESPN:
“I’ve always said we’re a team. I never hide my thoughts — I always tell my players what’s on my mind.”“I’ve always told them we’ve got great talent but we need to fight more than our opponents, run more than them and be more concentrated than them. We have an amazing group. They’ve always believed what I told them: that we could win this.”
