Nigeria U-23 Dream Team Lose Again
Nigeria U-23 Dream Team fell to an embarrassing defeat again, this time to Mexico U-23 at the Victoria Stadium. Marco Antonio Bueno scored the only goal 65 minutes.
With the Rio 2016 Olympic Games getting closer, the Dream Team led by Samson Siasia tested her abilities against one of the favorites for the Gold medal at the Rio Olympics. In the 29th minute Taiwo Awoniyi burst down the left and when he was about to shoot, Raul Gudino tracked back to block his effort.
Amuzio Stanley dribbled a couple of defenders inside the area in the 35th minute and instead of testing Raul Gudino, his shot went just wide.
The only goal of the game came when Azteca midfielder, Carlos Cisneros, burst down the right side and crossed for Marco Bueno, who sent the ball into the back of the net.
The line ups the match was:
Mexico: Gudino; Cota; Montes; Briseño; Abella; Guzman; Gutiérrez; Cisneros; Pizarro; Torres, Zaldivar.
Nigeria: Daniel; Muenfuh; Amuzie; Muhammed; Ajayi; popoola; Godwin; Okechukwu (c); Keigo; Awoniyi and Effiong.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have refused to allow Kelechi Iheanacho to take part in the Rio Olympics with Nigeria. Iheanacho, 20, was named in Nigeria’s 35-man provisional squad for the 2016 Games, but, unlike at previous tournaments, clubs are not obliged to release players to take part.
