Arsenal Legend Thierry Henry Named New Assistant Manager Of Belgium National Team
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has been named as the new assistant manager of the Belgium national team, working under former Everton boss Roberto Martinez in the Red Devils setup, 90min reports.
Henry, who also works as a Premier League pundit for Sky Sports, left his coaching role with the Gunners’ Under-18 team earlier this summer and will now try his hand at senior international level.
“Thierry Henry has been in the situation to change the spirit into winning something,” Martinez explained after the appointment was revealed on Friday morning.
After the disappointment of failing to progress beyond the quarter final stage at Euro 2016, it marks a new era for Belgium, still ranked the top European team in the world by FIFA.
In their first test in charge, Martinez and Henry face an away qualifier in Cyprus as the road to the 2018 World Cup begins.
The squad that has been named is largely the same as the one that went to France in June, once more featuring a heavy Premier League influence. They are players that both head and assistant coach should know well.
Thorgan Hazard, younger brother of Eden, new Burnley record signing Steven Defour, and Everton winger Kevin Mirallas are among those to have been recalled after missing the Euros.
