Messi Inspires Barcelona Past Sevilla To Claim Super Cup
Barcelona beat Sevilla 3-0 in the return leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Wednesday night at the Nou Camp, Complete Sports Nigeria reports.
The LaLiga champions won the tie 5-0 on aggregate after winning the first leg 2-0 last weekend.
A brace from former Atletico Madrid player Arda Turan and a goal from Lionel Messi gave Barcelona the win
Turan gave Barcelona the lead on 10 minutes after being played through by Messi.
In the 33rd minute, Sevilla had a penalty following a handball by Samuel Umtiti inside the box butVicente Ibora’s kick was parried away by Claudio Bravo.
Two minutes into the second half, Barcelona doubled their lead through Turan who lobbed the ball over the Sevilla keeper off a misplaced pass.
In the 56th minute, Messi got on the score sheet, heading in a cross to make it 3-0 to Barcelona.
It is Barcelona’s 12th Spanish Super Cup title.
In the 2015 Spanish Super Cup, Barcelona lost 5-1 on aggregate to Athletic Bilbao.
Barcelona will kick off the defence of their La Liga title when they entertain Real Betis on Saturday, while Sevilla will welcome Espanyol to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan also on Saturday.
