Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz is edging closer to a sensational return to Chelsea after a fee of £32m was agreed between the two clubs, 90min reports.
According to the Daily Mail, the Brazilian international has all but completed a move back to Stamford Bridge, with only a medical standing in his way of heading back to West London for the first time since 2014.
The 29-year-old left the Blues for Paris Saint-Germain for a staggering £50m after being deemed surplus to requirements by former manager Jose Mourinho, but new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte appears keen to reunite Luiz with the side, and further reports have also suggested that he is on the Eurostar heading towards London for his medical tonight.
Sources have suggested that the deal may last longer than expected, but it will be completed despite being estimated to go past the 11pm deadline.
Having revealed that he has recently become unsettled in the French capital, Luiz has spoken of his desire to return to Chelsea, and having seen bids for both Kalidou Koulibaly and Alessandro Romagnolirebuffed, Conte will be keen to bolster his defensive options before the window closes.
During his three year spell with the club, Luiz became something of a club hero for his flamboyant playing style and ability to produce moments of magic in the form of long range goals. He also was a part of the famous 2012 squad which won the club’s first ever Champions League title against Bayern Munich on penalties.
Luiz will be keen to add to his 143 appearances and 12 goals for the blues, but it will be interesting to see if he is one of two first choice centre backs in front of John Terry and Gary Cahill in the Conte set-up, or whether he will be utilised both as a defender and defensive midfielder due to his versatile nature.
