Thierry Henry Predicts Who Will Win The Premier League Golden Boot

Sergio Aguero is bookmakers’ favourite to win the Golden Boot heading into the new Premier League season – and understandably so.

The Argentine striker has scored 92 league goals since joining Manchester City in 2011 and established himself as one of football’s most accomplished finishers.

So effective is Aguero in front of goal that it comes as a surprise to learn he’s only won the Golden Boot once, in the 2014/15 season.

He faces stiff competition to add a second to his trophy cabinet, though, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic andHarry Kane – among many others – also gunning for the accolade.

Predicting who will come out on top is a near-impossible task, but that hasn’t stopped Thierry Henry from naming his favourite for the prize, according to GiveMeSport.

In an interview with Squawka, the Arsenal legend tipped former Barcelona teammate Ibrahimovic to finish top goalscorer in his debut Premier League season.

He said:

“One thing I will say about Zlatan is people always talk about what he says and other stuff. People never mention that he’s a professional; that he lives and breathes football.”

“He doesn’t go out, he doesn’t drink, he respects the game. Thirty-four and he’s still playing and he still performs. Look at his body. People don’t give him the credit he deserves.”

“People are quick to jump on what he says. He’s a professional, he will work hard and he has a certain way of playing that people like or don’t like. He’s a funny guy too.”

“I played with him and all I did was laugh. He has his character – you need to have it at some point, especially a player of his attitude – but he performs and he delivers.”

“How long he’s going to play at Manchester United I don’t actually know, but he will continue to score goals. I think he might win the Golden Boot this year.”

When asked what Ibrahimovic will bring to United, Henry added: “Goals. We saw it [on Sunday]. If you put the ball in the box… with his physicality, the way he plays, his technique, his awareness, his understanding of the game.

“People always talk about how big he is – he’s very clever player. One thing I will say about Ibrahimovic is he will bring a winning mentality.”

“He will bring an aura, like what [Eric] Cantona had. I’m not going to compare him to Cantona, but he has that type of attitude.”

Early signs suggest Ibrahimovic will be a hit at Old Trafford after scoring a bicycle kick on his debut in a pre-season friendly and the winning goal against Leicester City in the Community Shield.

The Swede demonstrated his strengths when he rose highest to head home at Wembley: power, precision and a never-say-die attitude.

And besides, who are we to question a player that scored 38 league goals for Paris Saint-Germain last season.
