EXCLUSIVE: Rohr Wants Etebo, Sadiq, Ezekiel In New Super Eagles
New Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has expressed his love for the U-23 trio Sadiq Umar, Imoh Ezekiel and Oghenekaro Etebo and has told the Nigeria Football Federation chieftains that he wants them in the new Eagles he will soon assemble, Complete Sports Nigeria reports.
A top official of the NFF said that the new coach started work even before signing his contract on Tuesday by watching the Nigeria Under-23 team beat Sweden 1-0 at the Rio 2016 Olympics and he was impressed by the skills of Umar and Etebo as well as the work ethic of some other players of the team.
According to our source, the new coach was so impressed with the Olympic team’s play that he asked if it were possible to build his team with this squad in Rio for the Olympic Games in Brazil but was told that he has to watch other teams play before making up his mind.
“The new coach has shown the enthusiasm and readiness to work and do a good job and this is what we expect from him,” the NFF source said.
“He said after the match that Etebo and Sadiq were bombs waiting to explode into global brands. He also had nice words for Ezekiel Imoh,William Troost-Ekong, Shehu Abdullahi and Stanley Amuzie.”“I can tell you that the man also knows about Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and a host of other Nigerian players plying their trades in Europe. The man is raring to go and I think he is the kind of coach that will get the Super Eagles back on track.”
Our source also revealed that the new coach was eager to meet with the Nigerian coaches who would assist him and this will be done in Spain where the coaches are presently with the NPFL All Stars team to play La Liga clubs in friendlies.
