Leicester City full-back Danny Simpson insists that his side are struggling with set pieces this season because of the new grappling laws implemented by the Premier League, 90min reports.
Referees have been ordered to crack down on players pushing and shoving in the box for free-kicks and corners this season, and to give penalties if need be.
The champions’ centre-backs Robert Huth and Wes Morgan were often seen grappling opponents in the box last term, and are now finding it difficult to cope with the recent restrictions.
“It is in your mind, yes, we have seen a few decisions this season,” Simpson said to the Telegraph.
“It is something we have to learn to adapt to as players. They have changed the rules. The way it was last season, I thought we were very good at defending set pieces and we made it tough for the opponents.”
“You have been doing that [grappling] all your career and suddenly you have got to change it, but it’s the same for everyone.”
“It’s something we are going to have to adapt to and I am sure we will look at it and work out the best way because that can’t happen again.”
“They have made it [the rules] very clear and we know the decisions that have been made, but in any game, whether it’s at Old Trafford or wherever, you can’t concede three goals in ten minutes from set pieces.”
With their first home Champions League game coming up on Tuesday against Porto, Simpson expects Leicester to bounce back and show their quality.
“That is the spirit of our team, we know we are good at bouncing back,” the right-back added.
“It will be a special night, a big night for everyone. We will be ready for that.”
