Burnley boss Sean Dyche was pleased by the three points which he believed his side had ‘earned the right’ to get, as they outfought Watford in a 2-0 win at Turf Moor, 90min reports.
Jeff Hendrick and Michael Keane both put their names on the scoresheets with clinical headers, and Tom Heaton was left relatively untroubled throughout.
“It wasn’t an easy three points,” argued Sean Dyche in an interview afterwards with BBC Sport,
“It was very good performance and we earned the right to get the three points. You get the feel of a game and I thought we had that throughout tonight.”
“I thought we played very well through the first half and the start of the second. Then we got a little bit nervous, but not enough that they really looked like opening us up.”
“I was surprised they finished the game with eleven men. Pereyrabrings him down and it’s a kick out at best, nothing malicious but that gets booked so they should have had ten men.”
Hendrick scored his first goal for Burnley, and Steven Defour was praised for a strong performance which included two assists.
“We like Jeff as a player and he’s fitting in with the group really well. We like the group to know each other and glue a team together.”
“I like what (Defour) is doing. He’s a technical player and we thought we needed a more technical edge. He’s still learning about the group and adapting to the Premier League.”
Andre Gray’s ban for three more matches left Dyche “disappointed”, especially in the knowledge that Gray was “in a better place now”.
“Andre’s taken away for twelve percent of our games now. We think it will have an effect, but as you saw tonight it galvanised the group. We believe in what we do and we believe in the players we’ve got.”
Burnley rise to thirteenth in the league with seven points from six Premier League games, level with Watford and four points clear of the relegation zone.
