Tottenham’s attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen has claimed his side are ready to challenge for the Premier League again, 90min reports.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went close last season, but suspensions to key players coupled with a loss of form for the North London outfit saw them slip out of the title race and eventually finish third. Spurs have made a better start to the season this time around, and currently sit in second place in the Premier League, just one point behind leaders Manchester City.
Talking to Tipsboadet as reported by talkSPORT, Eriksen stated that he believed Spurs can fight for the Premier League title again.
“I believe we can fight for the Premier League title. We are a top club and we can win the Premier League,” Eriksen declared.
Spurs had largely gone unnoticed during the early parts of the season, with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool earning plaudits for their attacking football. Spurs, however, have been defensively solid, conceding a league low of three Premier League goals, but earned praise last weekend after their 2-0 win over City, condemning Pep Guardiola’s side to a first defeat of the season.
Manchester City had been backed by many to win the Premier League this season, but the result may well cast doubts over their potential prospects for the season. Eriksen had been the subject of transfer speculation over the summer, but signed a new contract last month to keep him at Tottenham until 2020.
Spurs travel to West Brom when the Premier League kicks off again after the international break, before visiting Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
