Sunderland forward Wahbi Khazri is said to be the target of Spanish side Espanyol, who are said to be interested in signing him in January, 90min reports.
According to the Shields Gazette, reports from Khazri’s hometown suggest that a move could be on the cards due to a lack of first team game action under new manager David Moyes. They suggest that because of this he has attracted attention from former Watford manager and current Espanyol boss, Quique Sanchez Flores.
The 25-year-old only signed for the struggling Premier League side in January from Bordeaux, but has found himself limited to a few appearances this season, only just breaking into the team for the first time under the Scot in recent weeks.
The Spanish team, who currently sit 17th in La Liga aren’t the only ones said to be interested in signing him if he was to become available. A number of teams in France, where he spent most of his early career playing, are also said to be interested in his signature once the Winter transfer window opens.
Khazri enjoyed a fine start to life on the Wearside under former manager Sam Allardyce, helping the side fight relegation by providing goals and assists during the final stages of the season.
Despite this, he has taken a backseat to the new signings made over the summer, which limited him to just five appearances so far.
But with loan signing Adnan Januzaj injured for up to six weeks, he finally got the chance to impress during one of his first starts of the season. He put in a fine display during the draw against West Brom on saturday, playing 90 minutes before being substituted, and will hope the performance will kickstart his season under Moyes.
