John Stones Wants To Keep Playing Alongside Gary Cahill For England

England and Manchester City centre-back John Stones has said that he wants to keep playing alongsideGary Cahill in the England set-up, per the Evening Standard.

The 22-year-old claimed that Cahill’s experience has helped him develop his own skills as a player.

Cahill has been on the end of loads of criticism these last few weeks for his shoddy performances in a Chelsea shirt, but looks set to retain his place in the England side – new boss Gareth Southgate will be looking for positive results in their World Cup qualifying matches against Malta and Slovenia.

Stones, meanwhile, is having a good campaign under Pep Guardiola at City and despite Cahill’s recent form, would like to continue learning under the Chelsea man.

“I’d like to,” he replied when asked if he’d like to continue his partnership with Cahill.

“Always playing with an experienced player is good, learning new things, with whoever I play with.

“Whether it’s Jags [Phil Jagielka], Chris [Smalling], sometimes you’re not going to play and watching from the sidelines, watching those guys, trying to improve off them I suppose. They’ve been here, got a lot of caps, played a lot of games for club as well.

“Whatever partnership plays for England is always a strong one because the training we do and how we work in training is always different combinations so we all know how each other play.”

Cahill has also spoken out regarding the recent criticisms hurled in his direction, and has promised to work hard on correcting his mistakes.
