David De Gea's Manchester United Release Clause Revealed

It is difficult to point to a Premier League goalkeeper who is genuinely better than David de Gee at present.

The Manchester United custodian has cemented his status as one of the finest shot-stoppers in world football with three consecutive player of the season awards at Old Trafford under his belt.

While his standing among his fans is nothing short of impeccable, De Gea has also attracted a long queue of admirers in the form of other top clubs.

Much to the delight of United fans today, a broken fax machine was the one obstacle between the 26-year-old and securing a dream move to Real Madrid during the dying hours of the summer transfer window in 2015.

The Old Trafford hierarchy were naturally desperate to avoid a repeat of the saga anytime in the future, and promptly tied him down to a new contract until at least 2019 and with a massive release clause to boot, GiveMeSport reports.

Marca reports that any club wishing to sign De Gea will have to cough up a whopping €60 million (approximately £51 million), – a fee that would eclipse the highest ever paid for a goalkeeper in Gianluigi Buffon’s move from Parma to Juventus.

The former Atletico Madrid star has been a solid figure in what has been an otherwise turbulent season to date, keeping four clean sheets and making 19 saves in 11 Premier League appearances.

But despite his efforts, he has been unable to help his side from slipping to sixth on the league table and flirting with elimination from the Europa League group stage.

Jose Mourinho and his United team can ill afford to continue their erratic from across all competitions with the January transfer window opening just six weeks from now.

In what comes as ominous news for the Old Trafford outfit, Madrid have reportedly “not forgotten” about De Gea and are considering making another move for him when he is closer to his prime in 2019.

Money has rarely been a deal-breaker when Madrid have set their sights on luring superstar names to the Santiago Burnabeu, and €60 million is hardly a sum they would flinch at, even for a goalkeeper.
