Micheal Owen Reveals Why Jamie Vardy Is Not Popping In Goals Like He Was Last Season

Jamie Vardy enjoyed such a remarkable 2015-16 campaign that filmmakers are now in the process of turning his life story into a movie.

The former non-league footballer scored 19 goals as Leicester City, priced at 5,000-1 before a ball was kicked last season, were crowned Premier League champions.

Vardy’s talismanic performances earned him a place in the England squad for the European Championships while Arsenal tried their best to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

Despite firm interest from the Gunners, though, Vardy opted to stay put with the Foxes and was rewarded with a lucrative new contract.

So far this season, however, Vardy has failed to hit the same levels as last term.

After 10 Premier League matches, the 29-year-old has a disappointing two goals to his name.

Why have Vardy’s performances dipped? Well, according to Michael Owen, the Leicester City star - despite what he showed the world last season - isn’t a ‘natural finisher’ and got 'lucky' on occasions en route to lifting the title, according to GiveMeSport.

Funny he didn’t say that when he was dominating England’s top flight last term, eh?

"Even when he was scoring loads of goals last season he wasn't convincing me as a natural finisher,” Owen insists, per the Mirror.

"But then again Alan Shearer used a lot of brute force and power. He was a different type – not everyone finishes the same way.

"Vardy does contribute to the team with his running into the channels and his closing down. But he's in the team to score goals and we've seen a contrast from last season.

"He's the type of centre forward or type of finisher that is very much head down and hit it. He goes for power a lot. He's not necessarily a real cute, classy type of finisher.

"He doesn't once lift his head. He almost hits it through goalkeepers. To be a finisher like that you need a lot of luck – sometimes you'll have it, sometimes you won't."

Is sounds like Owen is insinuating that Vardy isn’t a top class striker and maybe he has a point.

In the season before last, he only scored five Premier League goals in 34 matches.
