Real Madrid Outscore 10-Man Sevilla To Claim UEFA Super Cup
Despite not parading Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Pepe and Toni Kroos, Real Madrid defeated 10-man Sevilla 3-2 after extra-time to win the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday in Trondheim, Norway.
Marco Asensio, Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal all scored for Madrid.
While Franco Vazquez and Yevhen Konoplyanka were on target for Sevilla.
It was Madrid’s third Super Cup title after after winning the trophy in 2002 and 2014.
Madrid took the lead in the 21st minute through Marco Asensio who hit a 25 metre strike that flew into the top right corner.
With three minutes of the first half remaining, Franco Vazquez equalised for Sevilla, striking a left-foot shot inside the area.
In the 72nd minute, Sevilla took the lead through Konoplyanka who converted from the penalty spot after Sergio Ramos fouled Vitolo inside the box.
But on 93 minutes, Ramos grabbed a late equaliser to send the game into extra-time.
In the 94th minute of extra-time, Thimothee Kolodziejczak was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Ten minutes into extra-time, Ramos had the ball inside the net but it was disallowed for an infringement.
But in the 119th minute, Carvajal sealed the win for Madrid with a brilliant solo goal.
