Barcelona right-back Aleix Vidal has failed to make the grade at the Spanish club so far, and has found out that Dani Alves’ boots are not so easy to fill, 90min reports.
Alves, who left for Juventus after the end of last season, spent eight successful years at the Camp Nou. And his departure has left Barca much worse off.
The 27-year-old Vidal joined Barcelona from Sevilla last year, making his competitive debut in January of this year by coming on as a substitute for Alves. He is still struggling to adapt, and rumour has it that he could be on his way out pretty soon.
According to Spanish publication Marca, the La Liga champions have already put a five-man target list together, and could make an approach for either one in the January transfer window.
Valencia’s Joao Cancelo is believed to be on said list. The 22-year-old is in fine form for both club and country, and has scored three goals in as many matches since being called up to the Portuguese senior team in August this year.
Experienced pair Stephan Lichtsteiner and Darijo Srna are also thought to be options. Lichtsteiner, 32, plays for Italian champions Juventus, while Srna plays for Shakhtar Donetsk.
Bayern Munich’s in-form utility man Joshua Kimmich has emerged as a target as well. The versatile midfielder has been scoring non-stop for Bayern, and can fill in a defensive position if needs be.
Barcelona also have their former youth player Hector Bellerin as an option. The Spaniard has been Arsenal’s best defender for the past year, and probably tops the list.
