According to the Daily Mail, the rather fabulously named Presnel Kimpembe, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, has plenty of reasons to celebrate today.
174,000 reasons to be exact.
Reports in France claim the 21-year-old central defender has been handed a rather sizeable pay rise; having previously been earning £7,100 per month, Kimpembe is now set to earn a whopping £174,000 over the same period…
That’s a 2350% pay increase. Not bad at all.
But before you go marching into your boss’s office and demand the same kind of treatment, perhaps you’ll need to make seven appearances for PSG this season AND get yourself a call up to the France squad – two key reasons which prompted the club to enter into discussions with the player in the first place.
Initially, the player wanted £223,000-a-month (even more ‘ole’). Negotiations continued, the club coming back with an offer of £45,000.
The player refused. Reports that he found the offer ‘shabby’ are unfounded.
Finally, the club agreed on an offer whereby the player would take home a fixed £151,000 up front, with potential bonuses boosting those numbers up to that magical £174,000.
Onto more important matters – that is, actually having the eternal fortune of PLAYING FOOTBALL for a living – Kimpembe has been third choice behind Brazilians Thiago Silva and Marquinhos under coachUnai Emery this season.
Stating his ambitions, the player made it clear he wants to cement a place in the first team.
”My call-up to the France squad and this extension are two dreams come true. But it’s just the beginning. I need to keep working hard to achieve my objectives.”
Kimpembe continued:
”My ambitions for this season? Win titles, play as much as possible and experience some great moments with my teammates, the club and the fans. It is thanks to the fans that we are where we are today.”They do a lot for the club and for us. I want to repay that faith and the joy they bring us.”
PSG are third in Ligue 1, three points behind Mario Balotelli’s Nice.
