Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater is at risk of disciplinary action from the FA after being caught on camera appearing to elbow Watford counterpart Valon Behrami during his side’s 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road on Saturday, 90min reports.
The England international was seen to clash with the ex-West Ham man, as per The Sun, in the 67th minute of the match.
The Foxes’ defeat at Vicarage Road continued their miserable away Premier League form so far this season, to leave them Claudio Ranieri’s reigning champions just two points clear of the relegation zone, without an an away league win to their name.
The Italian has enough problems to contend with, without one of his most important players facing a spell on the sidelines for an unnecessary flashpoint, and is unlikely to be impressed with Drinkwater.
The former Manchester United man’s partnership with N’Golo Kante was one of the cornerstones of Leicester’s incredible Premier League title win last season, but Drinkwater has struggled for form since the Frenchman’s departure.
It looked as if his side’s struggles got on top of Drinkwater, who had been booked two minutes before for a clash with Behrami as he unnecessarily lost discipline.
Ranieri also gave his thought on his side’s form thus far this season, as well as the creative burden being placed upon the shoulders of Riyad Mahrez, following Saturday’s match.
“It’s very strange to be in a position where you are struggling in the league but can make the Champions League knockouts. But it’s the reality. We have to be calm and strong.”
The Italian also gave an insight into the reasons why PFA Player of the Year Mahrez may have failed to replicate last season’s form this time around.
“Every time he gets the ball, he tries to do something special but now he has three opponents close to him. It’s something he has got to get used to.”
